Packet Update

I promise, I DIDN'T set down to take on the packet as a challenge! I sat down to read it last night and we have a digital version of it so I pulled it up on DH's laptop, figuring I'd read it before drifting off to sleep. As I was reading through it I thought, "hey, that's an easy question, I'll just answer it now." Then I thought "well this one's only asking for our names and addresses--I can do that no problem." This went on and on until I had completed about 1/4 of the packet without even realizing it or setting out to do it. There are quite a few pages that don't apply to us because we don't have drugs/alcohol history, criminal history, other children or previous marriages, so there are whole pages of questions that we can skip. DH is taking his portion on his business trip but I think we can finish everything in the next week. I don't know what I was so worried about. I think the personality tests (180 questions and we each take it twice) will take longer than anything!

  1. Wow!! I love filling out forms (I think I'm weird), so I definitely understand where you're coming from! :D And personality tests are fun! :) Congrats on doing it so fast, even though you didn't intend to!

  2. I'm a happy data person as well and love filling out forms such as the ones you describe. Because we are doing embryo donation (at this point) we do not have to fill out any forms, but for our adoption from China, the forms were massive and are still ongoing. Not sure we will ever get to either China or to a child conceived through embryo donation, but it is worth all the shots we can give.

  6. I SO did that! :) Have fun! Do you have to have a homestudy? How much does the process differ from a regular run-of-the-mill adoption process? If you've posted on this, let me know of the link and I'll catch up there.

    Happy paperwork!

  7. Hi Glenna,

We actually go through exactly the same process as a traditional adoption. We take the same classes, do the same homestudy, get the same court certification. The only thing different is we obviously don't specify preferences about the child (age, appearance, gender, needs, etc) in our match packet since those things are unknown at the embryonic stage, and the government doesn't consider it an adoption so we don't get that nifty tax break.
