Doesn't seem very biblical to me to claim that childbirth should be pain-free when God said explicitly that we would have pain.

anywho -it's too late for a rant, and obviously I'm preachin' to the choir.

thanks for the review - i thought it was thoughtful and insightful. i won't be checking this book out of the library anytime soon.Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15616258595503455641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7439109790681220541.post-56433458336074170922007-12-04T18:42:35.792-08:002007-12-04T18:42:35.792-08:00dang - sorry about the ridiculously long comment!dang - sorry about the ridiculously long comment!Heatherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15616258595503455641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7439109790681220541.post-73742746812934691582007-12-04T20:04:00.967-08:002007-12-04T20:04:00.967-08:00Girl, I STRUGGLED with this book as well! I read ...Girl, I STRUGGLED with this book as well! I read it a couple of years ago and I had HUGE problems with their theology. There was SO much Scripture taken out of context, in my opinion. What her (and her husband's) theology boils down to is that if you don't conceive and have a baby exactly the way you want, you simply don't have enough faith. Do you say that to cancer patients? People who are born with diseases? I believe in a God who is sovereign and who is in complete control over my in/fertility. I continue to pray and beseech Him because I do believe that Scripture teaches me to ask Him for that. But this whole "name it, claim it" form of theology is a load of garbage in my mind. Sure, you can pull ANY verse out of context and have it mean whatever you want. But that is not how Scripture is meant to be read and studied. Good gracious...this book BUGGED me! I'm glad someone else saw through Mize's shabby interpretation of Scripture and childbirth. I can't argue with her experience, but I won't hinge the power of a sovereign God on my lack of faith. I trust Him because He is faithful, but I will not use His Word as an incantation or as a reason to have exactly what I want when I want it.

Mize forgets that to be a follower of Christ means to suffer...it is inevitable. Sometimes that may mean suffering through infertility or recurrent miscarriage. Can God not use this to mold us into His image and to minister to countless others?

Anyway...I'm getting out of hand here. I also do not recommend this book.
Interesting topic!Glenna Marshallhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18348224654818247656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7439109790681220541.post-60037677257826648862007-12-05T15:47:28.853-08:002007-12-05T15:47:28.853-08:00Hi Jen - another blogger I read regularly had a ne...Hi Jen - another blogger I read regularly had a negative review of this book also, and got almost 100 comments on it! I rewrote them for my friend who reads them often. For her, after having 4 m/c you need to hear truth to build faith.Sunnyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14570018200281339937noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7439109790681220541.post-39113468197656092332007-12-18T20:27:31.193-08:002007-12-18T20:27:31.193-08:00Yep, it certainly is a book to avoid. In these peo...Yep, it certainly is a book to avoid. In these people's mind, being Christian means getting what we want. And pain free. Which does not AT ALL follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, a man of sorrows and suffering Himself, who for the joy set before him endured the cross. What do they think of passages about 'dying to yourself' and 'surrendering' our aches, pains, emotional and physical? I do believe that Scripture empowers us, but empowers us to persevere and overcome not by being physically victorious, but spiritually victorious over our human nature to will and want ease and comfort.
I have been hurt by the 'name and claim it' way of thinking, or the 'word faith' movement in the past so I know I need to work on forgiveness and reconciliation. I love that they read and believe so strongly, but even the devil used scripture on Jesus, out of context. The scripture was true, but not absolute in and of itself, as a lone grammatical sentences.
I wrote a 'cautionary' note and put it in a book I saw at a local bookstore while browsing.Gioiettahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16061666009972962329noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7439109790681220541.post-66918460500251965992007-12-29T09:52:22.870-08:002007-12-29T09:52:22.870-08:00Outstanding reveiw of a very diffucult book. {{{hu...Outstanding reveiw of a very diffucult book. {{{hugs}}}Jenni / Jennifer Saake a.k.a. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for three years. We want kids so badly that we started looking for answers anywhere that we could find them. We looked into the book, but felt uncomfortable with the overview of it. Reading your review confirmed our reaction and reminded us that God is, and always will be, in control, and that we can relax in HIS will. Thank you again. You have blessed us.Banyer Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15771170006277917034noreply@blogger.com
